Introduction
AltShift+ ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our browser extension and web application.

How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the AltShift+ service
- To enable full-text search across your captured content
- To sync your library across devices
- To provide AI-powered categorization and insights
- To send important service updates and security notices
- To improve our service and develop new features
- To prevent fraud and ensure security
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption both in transit and at rest. Captures are encrypted by default using KMS-backed envelope encryption, so database access alone cannot reveal your saved captures. We use Supabase for database hosting and authentication, which provides enterprise-grade security features including:
- End-to-end encryption for data transmission
- Encrypted database storage
- Regular security audits and updates
- Role-based access controls
Extension Permissions
The AltShift+ browser extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab: To capture screenshots only when you trigger the action
- tabs: To access the current tab's URL and title
- storage: To store your API token locally
- scripting: To inject content scripts for OCR functionality
- notifications: To show capture success/failure messages
Important: AltShift+ only captures content when you explicitly trigger it (via keyboard shortcut or extension button). We never capture content automatically or in the background.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We only share data with:
- Service Providers: Trusted partners who help us operate our service (e.g., hosting, analytics) under strict confidentiality agreements
- Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data and captured content
- Export your data in a portable format
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Opt out of optional features like AI categorization
- Uninstall the extension at any time
To exercise these rights, visit your account settings or contact us at privacy@altshift.plus
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete all your personal information and captured content within 30 days, except where we're required to retain certain information for legal or security purposes.
Children's Privacy
AltShift+ is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the application. Your continued use of AltShift+ after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
